First Part of Three-Part Women’s Art Show Opens at 78th Street Studios

From Cool Cleveland:

Sadly, among its many cutbacks, Lakeland Community College closed its gallery and let go its gallery director, Mary Urbas, last year. Urbas was a well-known and respected curator who put together shows such as her fall Skull and Skeleton Show, her May show and her Women’s History Month From Women show.

Urbas is now reworking her popular exhibits, which showcase the work of some of the region’s best artists, and moving them to other galleries around town. Her show From Women 18 …created by women, of women and about women is divided into three sections this year to accommodate the number of artists who used to fill Lakeland’s spacious gallery. One will be at BAYarts, one at Lake Erie College’s BK Smith Gallery, and one opens this weekend at 78th Street Studios’ Understory Gallery during Third Friday.

Located on the RAMP level, the Understory show will feature work by ceramicist Diana Bjel, textile artists Libby Chaney and Sandy Shelenberger, weaver Deborah Silver, woven basket artist Annie Peters, enamelist Marty Moore, and mixed media artists Grace Summanen, Suzan Kraus and Marti Higgins (work pictured above).

The show will open during Third Friday this week and will also be on view during Third Friday March 21.
