This work is part of an ongoing series, October. This work primarily focuses on grieving and depression. This series also engages with topics of being a caregiver and interacting with international healthcare systems. In this work, I’ve used photos and notes I collected in the months during and after my father’s passing.
Artist Bio
Alyssa Karis is an artist and art educator based in Saratoga Springs, New York. Her work explores the experiences of chronic illness, with a focus on delayed diagnosis and the ways in which patients, particularly women, navigate life with pain. Alyssa often combines digital and film photography with introspective handwritten texts, offering a personal perspective on her experiences within the healthcare system and her own chronic condition.
